Embrace the Essence of Wabi-Sabi: Handcrafted Japanese Black Glaze Chawan

Immerse yourself in the profound calm of traditional Japanese tea ceremony with this authentic handcrafted Black Glaze Chawan (Kuro-Raku style). Complete with its original artisan-signed wooden collector's box (Tomobako), this tea bowl embodies the purest expression of Wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection, simplicity, and natural form.

The Story & Craftsmanship

  • Hand-Formed Organic Silhouette: Shaped by hand without a mechanical potter’s wheel (Te-tsukune technique), the undulating, wave-like rim echoes the gentle contours of mountain ridges (Yamamichi). Every subtle curve fits naturally into the contours of your palms.

  • Deep Luminous Black Glaze: Fired to reveal a rich, obsidian-black surface accented by warm earthen undertones and subtle mineral speckles. The deep interior creates a breathtaking, dramatic contrast that makes the vivid emerald foam of freshly whisked ceremonial matcha glow with life.

  • Superior Heat Retention: The substantial ceramic walls cradle the warmth of your tea, keeping it at the perfect drinking temperature while offering a grounding, tactile ritual every time you lift the bowl to sip.

  • Authentic Collector's Tomobako: Arrives in its traditional wooden storage box inscribed with authentic Japanese calligraphic ink signatures and seals, making it both a functional ceremonial tool and a cherished collectible.

Ways to Use

Discover different methods to prepare and enjoy your matcha, from traditional ceremonies to modern variations.

Usucha Matcha: A popular, smooth, and frothy brew. This thin preparation highlights matcha's fresh flavor, perfect for daily enjoyment or informal tea ceremonies.

1

Warm up your tea bowl (Chawan) and whisk (Chasen)

Warming your matcha bowl and whisk (chasen) for 3 mins will help keep the bowl warm to maintain the ideal water temperature of 70-80°C during preparation, and it will also soften the whisk for better frothing.

2

Sift Matcha

Sift 1.5 - 2g of matcha directly into your warmed bowl for a perfectly smooth, airy powder.
