Short Hook / Overview:

Elevate your daily tea ritual with this exquisite handcrafted Japanese chawan. Inspired by traditional Kyoto ceramic artistry (Kyo-yaki style), this bowl is adorned with hand-painted cascading Wisteria blossoms (Fuji) set against a soft ivory cream glaze. Designed specifically for ceremonial matcha, it serves as a stunning canvas that brings out the vibrant, jewel-toned green of your freshly whisked tea.

The Story & Craftsmanship:

  • Kyoto Aristocratic Aesthetics (Kyo-yaki Style): Unlike rustic, unglazed tea ware, this bowl reflects the refined, elegant aesthetic (Miyabi) of traditional Kyoto craft. The delicate fine-crackle glaze (kannyu) gives it timeless warmth and artisanal depth.

  • Symbol of Grace & Hospitality: In Japanese culture, wisteria represents longevity, enduring elegance, and a warm welcome. The blossoms gently drape from the outer rim into the bowl’s interior, creating an immersive visual experience with every sip.

  • A Celebration of Seasonality (Kisetsukan): In traditional chanoyu, tea bowls often honor the rhythm of the seasons. Wisteria traditionally welcomes the arrival of late spring and early summer, infusing a sense of calm and rejuvenation into your space.

Designed for the Perfect Whisk:

  • Striking Visual Contrast: The warm ivory-cream interior provides the ideal neutral backdrop, accentuating the rich green jade hue and creamy micro-foam of ceremonial matcha.

  • Ergonomic Wan-nari Shape: Crafted with gently rounded sidewalls and a balanced, flat interior base, allowing your bamboo whisk (chasen) to glide effortlessly without splashing.

  • Comfortable Touch & Feel: Sits naturally and comfortably in both hands, holding heat evenly while feeling smooth and delicate against the lips.

Specifications & Care:

  • Style: Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu inspired ceramic

  • Motif: Hand-painted Wisteria (Fuji)

  • Finish: Warm ivory glaze with subtle crackle texture (kannyu)

  • Usage: Ideal for Koicha (thick tea) and Usucha (thin tea)

  • Care Instructions: Hand wash gently with warm water. Do not use abrasive scrubbers, harsh detergents, microwaves, or dishwashers. Allow to air dry thoroughly before storing.

Ways to Use

Discover different methods to prepare and enjoy your matcha, from traditional ceremonies to modern variations.

Usucha Matcha: A popular, smooth, and frothy brew. This thin preparation highlights matcha's fresh flavor, perfect for daily enjoyment or informal tea ceremonies.

1

Warm up your tea bowl (Chawan) and whisk (Chasen)

Warming your matcha bowl and whisk (chasen) for 3 mins will help keep the bowl warm to maintain the ideal water temperature of 70-80°C during preparation, and it will also soften the whisk for better frothing.
