Grounded in Nature: Handcrafted Japanese Artisan Amber-Glazed Chawan

Experience the timeless serenity of Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) with this authentic handcrafted artisan Chawan. Finished in a rich, multi-dimensional amber-iron glaze (Ame-yu) and housed in its original signed wooden box (Tomobako), this bowl represents the soulful pinnacle of Wabi-sabi aesthetics—honoring earthy imperfection, tactile warmth, and quiet strength.

Artisanal Craftsmanship & Aesthetics

  • Hand-Formed Tactile Warmth (Te-tsukune): Sculpted purely by hand without a mechanical potter’s wheel, the undulating rim and subtle finger indentations curve organically to nestle securely in both palms. Lifting this bowl provides an immediate, grounding connection to the earth.

  • Luminous Amber & Iron Glaze: Fired to reveal warm rust, molasses, and golden-amber undertones with an obsidian-like sheen in the interior. The glossy, dark earthen well creates a breathtaking visual contrast against the vibrant jade-green microfoam of ceremonial matcha.

  • Dedicated Tea Well (Chadamari): Features a subtle, deliberate indentation at the center of the inner base, designed in the classical tradition to pool the final, concentrated drops of tea.

  • Superior Thermal Insulation: Thick, porous earthenware sidewalls retain water temperature evenly, keeping your matcha comfortably warm while remaining comfortable and soothing to hold.

Collector’s Packaging

  • Authentic Wooden Box (Tomobako): Crafted from fine Japanese paulownia/cedar with artisan brushwork calligraphy and seal.

  • Traditional Ukon-nuno Wrapping: Wrapped in a vibrant turmeric-dyed cloth, historically used by Japanese tea masters to protect prized ceramic heirlooms from humidity, dust, and age.

Ways to Use

Discover different methods to prepare and enjoy your matcha, from traditional ceremonies to modern variations.

Usucha Matcha: A popular, smooth, and frothy brew. This thin preparation highlights matcha's fresh flavor, perfect for daily enjoyment or informal tea ceremonies.

1

Warm up your tea bowl (Chawan) and whisk (Chasen)

Warming your matcha bowl and whisk (chasen) for 3 mins will help keep the bowl warm to maintain the ideal water temperature of 70-80°C during preparation, and it will also soften the whisk for better frothing.

2

Sift Matcha

Sift 1.5 - 2g of matcha directly into your warmed bowl for a perfectly smooth, airy powder.
